Why Jacksonville?
Many young professionals come to Jacksonville for the atmosphere and excitement as well as the excellent career opportunities. With a growing population, strong economy, diverse cultural and recreational opportunities, Jacksonville continues to distinguish itself as one of the nations most dynamic and progressive cities.

Work
As the largest city, in land mass, in the continental U.S., Jacksonville boasts a rapidly growing metropolitan city with a convenient location to the east coast. The mild climate, reasonable cost of living, high quality of life and business-friendly environment make Jacksonville a popular location for corporate expansions and relocations. Jacksonville is consistently ranked as one of the “Hottest Cities in America” by Expansion Management. The city has been in the top 10 for six straight years and is the only city to claim the number one spot three times. In 2006 Forbes ranked Jacksonville 3rd in the Top 10 Best Cities to Find a Job.

Live
Not only does Jacksonville offer a continually growing economy, but it also is an excellent place to live. In 2005, Newsweek named Jacksonville one of the “100 Best Communities in the U.S. for Young People.” Whether you want to live in the exciting atmosphere of downtown, at the beach, close to great shopping or in the historic district, Jacksonville has something for you. In the last two years up-scale condominiums and apartments have sprung up in the heart of downtown including the Strand, San Marco Place and the Peninsula. Why not live at the beach? National Geographic Adventure named Jacksonville as one of the Top 6 Beach Towns in the U.S. Jacksonville offers miles of white sandy beaches with houses, condominiums and apartments that fit the young professional lifestyle. Want to live close to great shopping, restaurants and businesses? Whether you’re visiting the St. Johns Town Center, eating at P.F. Changs or leaving work from Blue Cross and Blue Shield or Merrill Lynch; the Southside is the archetype of a one-stop-shop place to live. For a more historic feel, you can reside in Avondale, Riverside or Historic Five Points. Avondale’s streets are lined with residential designs dating back to the early twentieth century, as well as fantastic shops and restaurants. Circa Gifts, Underwood Jewelers, R. Roberts Gallery and J. Ashley Boutique are just a few of the shops you can enjoy. Exciting restaurants to visit include Biscottis, The Brick, Casbah Café and Peterbrooke Chocolatier. Riverside’s architecture spans the period between 1871 and 1935 and includes Colonial Revival, Georgian Revival, Tudor and a few Queen Anne designs. Historic Five Points, nestled in a corner of Riverside, offers a more diverse feel with shops such as Aloha Paradise Surf Shop; Midnight Sun, a hidden treasure of imported jewelry and accessories from India; Violet Vintage, a clothing shop that will take you back in time; Hypnotique, an eclectic clothing boutique; and Earth Gifts, where you can find aromatherapy items, crystals and gemstones.

And Play
After a hard day at work you should be able to go out and enjoy yourself. Whether you’re an art lover, booklover, shopaholic or just want to relax on the beach, Jacksonville has something for you. For the art or theater lover, Jacksonville is home to the Museum of Science and History, the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens and many more. Experience the Ritz Theatre & LaVilla Museum, which celebrates the rich legacy of the African American community. In an issue of Black Enterprise, Jacksonville was named in the top 10 best cities for African Americans to work, live and play. For the shoppers, there is a brand new Town Center that features a variety of shops from Banana Republic, Lacoste, Louis Vuitton and Juicy Couture to Tommy Bahama, an Apple store and many more. To spend a day at the beach all you have to do is pick the one you want to go to. You can enjoy the Jacksonville, Atlantic, Neptune or Ponte Vedra Beaches and spend a day relaxing in the sun, surfing or shopping at an antique store or Art Gallery. That’s not all Jacksonville has to offer. Go global with the World of Nations, the area’s largest multicultural festival. More than 75,000 visitors come to the World of Nations to experience the cuisine, art and entertainment inspired by cultures from more than 40 countries. Learn more about various Hispanic cultures at the annual Hispanic Festival. Enjoy the food, music and different cultures from Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and more. From the performing arts, annual events, fairs, festivals, sporting events and recreation; there truly is something for everyone.

To get “out-of-town”, travel to one of the six surrounding regions for some fun and relaxation. Experience the lush forests and pristine lakes where hunting and fishing are a must. Along the banks of the St. Johns River, you can find year-round sailing and boating and some of the finest public and private golf courses such as Fleming Island Plantation, Oakleaf Plantation and Magnolia Point. Go visit Marineland, the world’s first “ocenarium.” Marineland is designed to showcase marine life in their natural habitat and serves as a location for underwater cinematography. To brush up on your history, visit Northeast Florida’s 150-year-old lighthouse, Civil War fort and the 50-block Victorian-era National Historic District. If you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, go hiking, fishing or bike riding and then take in a picnic. Come visit luxurious Ponte Vedra Beach, which is the worldwide headquarters for the PGA Tour and the ATP Tour. The best part is wherever you want to go in Northeast Florida, it won’t take you long to get there. Journey outside of Northeast Florida and visit Jekyll, St. Simons or Sea Island. These beautiful islands, on the Georgia coast, offer a wide variety of fun activities and relaxing getaways. In just under an hour you can enjoy golfing, fishing, swimming, surfing, kayaking or a relaxing walk on the beach.
